The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell is one of three ATP-500 level events held on clay, and is part of the European clay court swing in the lead-up to Roland Garros.
Interestingly, players who are successful at Barcelona, almost always do well at the French Open. Nobody fulfils this pattern like a certain Mallorcan.
Since the introduction of the Barcelona Open in 1953, no one has been more successful here than the 8 time champion, Spain’s son & King of Clay, Rafael Nadal.Nadal has gone on to win Roland Garros in 6 of the 8 years he won the TorneoGodó trophy.
David Ferrer is another Spaniard who contested the final multiple times against Nadal. Currently, Japan’s Kei Nishikori is the two time defending champion, lifting the title in 2014 & 2015.
